TOYAMA RYU
TOYAMA RYU
Toyama Ryu was established at the Toyama Military Academy of the Imperial Japanese Army known as the Rikugun Toyama Gakko in 1925.Iai- Batto Kata was taught here at the Toyama Military Academy. One Japanese Officer that was trained here was Taisaburo Nakamura, Nakamura was called Taito Honbun Sha, the Army Instructor of Kenjutsu. Nakamura was stationed in Northern China seeing combat during World War Two. Theory and application of the Iai- Batto Kata was put to the test in Hand to Hand Combat proving to be effective.
Nakamura also studied Ei, Calligraphy. Through Calligraphy he formed his Happo Giri Form of the Eight Cuts. This came from Eiji Happo, the Eight Rules of Calligraphy. This constructed the base for the use of the Eight Ways of Cutting which are myriad and eternal.
There are Eight Cuts used by Eight Postures and Eight Notos.Happo Giri, Happo No Kamae and Happo No Noto.
This theory led to the Formation of Nakamura Ryu Batto Do.
